SÅ FÖDDES FILMEN

Med ”Så föddes filmen” vill Rune Waldekranz ställa filmmediets uppkomst och genombrott som massmedium i en delvis ny belysning. Han ser biograffilmen som en direkt fortsättning och vidareutveckling av 1800-talets på optiska effekter inriktade populärteater. –

I en bred översikt visar han att populärfilmen både i fråga om dramatisk struktur och genreindelning har sina rötter i teatrala konstgrepp och i ideologiska konventioner som skapades av melodramregissörer, vilka var sina egna för fattare och strävade att med känsloladdade, spännande och spektakulära pjäser vinna en masspublik.
Den tekniska utvecklingen, främst inom foto grafikonsten och ljusbildsmediet, förbättringarna av kamera och projektor, gjorde det i seklets slutskede möjligt att förvandla den spektakulära teatern till ett modernt massmedium och att skapa en verklighet större än verkligheten. Kopierade på celluloidbandet kunde melodramregissörernas rafflande visioner, inriktade på en masspublik och avsedda för storstadsteatrar med en kapacitet av tusentals åskådare, nå ut till en världspublik.
RUNE WALDEKRANZ — fil. lic. i teaterveten skap och professor i filmforskning – bygger sin skildring på ett omfattande, internationellt mate rial, till största delen bestående av vetenskapligt utförda specialundersökningar inom skilda fält av teaterns och filmens historia.
